Breyer Traditional Gran Cavallo Model #711477 2021 BreyerFest Special Run 1,800.The Peruvian Paso was introduced in 2002. It was sculpted by Linda York and is Breyer mold #576. This is “Gran Cavallo” Model# 711477. He is a BreyerFest 2021 Special Run of 1,800. The theme was A Horse of a Different Color with a sub-theme featuring horses representing famous artists or famous art (Tassili & Pech Merle Cave Paintings; Seurat, Pollock, Ansel Adams, and Leonardo Da Vinci.)
The Gran Cavallo is based on an idea the Duke of Milan had, which was to have Da Vinci create for him what would’ve been the largest bronze horse statue in the world - standing at a massive 26 feet tall. Leonardo created numerous sketches and renderings, studying horse anatomy and making a clay model for the project. The horse comes with his COA, which is a delightful artist rendering peppered with some of the original sketches of the project.
The horse is stunning, with the most expressive, accurate eyes I’ve ever seen on a Breyer Model. He was taken out of his bubble wrap (he did not come in a special box) to get photos; he’s never been displayed and is considered “NEW IN HIS Bubble Wrap!” He is perfect. The only thing I notice less than perfect is a factory flaw on the inside of his leg in the seam; it looks like the paint didn’t get into there. I hadn’t even seen it until I processed the photos. It isn’t at all visible when he is standing in his normal position.
