Hi,See new message in italics atthe bottom of this listing for new information. My Ref-A-a1
Description-This is another postcard that is listed on the Jacqueline Rare Antiques "19 Most Valuable Vintage Postcards". That list is several years old now but the page is updated on a regular basis. You can find it by using those words in Google. This is a linen postcard from Linen Era 1930-1945. In Jacqueline's description, it says that they are are made out of linen. They are actually made with a high rag content (more cotton). Prior to the 1930s, it was not economically feasible to print on embossed paper but the technology improved. Linen postcards are among the most popular because of the way they feel in your hands. Any postcards that show city streets in this view are in high demand in RPPC, Chrome and of course linen. This particular postcard has Harvard University in the background amongst a very busy street lined with vintage cars, businesses including Woolworth and if you look at the street, you can see that there are trolly tracks which were mostly gone by the 1950s. This Brattle Street postcard is coveted by many collectors. Finding one is very difficult. If you research them online, you will see a few for sale but when you go to the website, they are sold. This postcard is so popular, you can find that scans are available for $12.00. There is even a metal sign for $20.00. This postcard is in a Near Mint/Mint state. None of the corners are bent or separated like most vintage postcards. This occurs from collectors placing them into rigid sleeves without care.
I use a top of the line Epson ES-580W Scanner to grab the best possible image of any postcard or photo. The scanned images are your best way to see the details. The colors are bright in the image but the actual card is more muted and has retained the same color from printing. I have had a few of these cards and this is one the best I have ever seen.I will ship this anywhere for $5.99. It will come in a brand new BCW Semi-Rigid Sleeve mailed in a over sized rigid photo mailer with extra materials to prevent any bending. I charge more for the rare cards as they required special handling and material. I use USPS Ground Advantage shipping for this item. It cost more then First Class mail but First Class mail is subject to bending through the sorting machines. If a "Do Not Bend" sticker is placed on any envelope, it becomes a package. If you have paid for First Class mail, there is a possibility that the mail will be returned or there will be a surcharge. That "Do Not Bend" sticker is more than a sticker, its a change in the way your mail is handled. It is worth the extra $2.00 to protect your postcard.I do not attempt to profit on shipping. I merely try to break even. I will use some recycle material depending what i have in stock though nothing will touch your item unless it is archival safe. I do offer shipping options on check-out.The best thing about my packaging? Each envelope or package is easy to open!!! How many times have you received a package only to spend ten minutes trying to open it without destroying the contents!!! No extra tape, glue, staples, or my worst fear, items shoved between two pieces of cardboard with tape on every edge requiring a surgeons scalpel to open it!!!
This will be one of the firsts of thousands of Postcards I will be listing over the next few months. I just wanted to put a few notes about my postcard listings after the description so the collector can understand the types I will be listing.I will keep the listings simple and will only put a message if I deem it worthwhile.
This is a new store for me but I have been on for over 26 years with perfect response.
