Boy on the Dolphin Vintage Pairpoint Glass Cup Plate 286 Greek Mythology Window Sill Decoration Amber Glass Handcrafted on Cape Cod, Made in USA This is a vintage 1984 amber crystal glass cup plate with an individually hand-pressed image of The Boy On The Dolphin in the center. The Pairpoint Glass cup plate was commissioned by the New Bedford Glass Museum, and is the ninth in a series of designs associated with glass making. The design was adapted from an 1894 Pairpoint silver nautilus, by artist Barbara Crowe Bushell. The ancient Greek legend of The Boy on the Dolphin symbolizes man's long kinship with "Apollo's Darling," the Dolphin. Handcrafted on Cape Cod using time-honored techniques, these 3.5 inch cup plates have subtle variations that highlight the artisan's skill. Each cup plate is crafted using a mold created with a hammer and chisel, and then pressed with molten glass using an antique press. This manufacturing process results in cup plates that are similar yet possess their own distinctive characteristics. Look closely and you'll find the artisan's initials and the Pairpoint trademark within the design. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, these versatile art glass pieces can add functionality to your home, serving as catchall dishes for organizing small items or ring dishes to keep your treasured jewelry safe.
