Black Earthenware By Marie Askan 1970 Santa Clara Pueblo Native American Pottery:
$250.00

This beautiful pair of Northern New Mexico Santa Clara Pueblo pottery vessels were handcrafted using authentic, traditional, Native American techniques, by well known Native American potter Marie Askan. The blackware pottery showcases the skillful artistry of the Pueblo tribe and their rich cultural heritage. The vintage pieces were made Circa 1970 and are in excellent - like new condition, ready to be added to your collection or displayed in your home.

The intricate designs and patterns, symmetry, matching thicknesses and weights, and unparalleled quality of these pieces are a testament to the creativity and craftsmanship, and skillful mastery of the Santa Clara Pueblo techniques that Marie Askan is known for.

Crafted by hand using traditional Pueblo techniques these pieces are made using clay coil construction, and entirely without the use of a pottery wheel. The pieces are then fired outdoors and colored without use of any paints or glazes, but are colored using thick black smoke and then stone polished by hand to create the beautiful two-tone matte & gloss black southwestern designs.

The pottery has been well taken care of and will be a wonderfully welcomed addition to any collector or enthusiast of Native American art decor or collection.

The pieces are a stunning and important example of the significance that the US Native American culture and Santa Clara Pueblo pottery technique contributes not only to art, but also to the rich history of the USA.

Dimensions:

The shorter of the two pieces is

apx 3.5”H x 4.5”W

The taller of the two pieces is

apx 4.5”H x 3.5”W

They will be sold along with the pictured “Pueblo Pottery of the Southwest” informational pamphlet that accompanied the pieces at the time of their original purchase in the late 1980’s. Copyright 1988
