These old photos of cowboys with pistols are becoming more rare as time goes on. This is a fantastic photo of a young cowboy holding his pistols cross armed. I have had this photo for roughly 25 years. The only thing I know about it is that the person I bought it from said it came from an old woman's garage sale near Lexington, Kentucky and that it appears to me to be from the 1870's -1880's. I have never had an expert look at it and that is all I know about it. The boy appears to resemble Billy with what could be similar teeth and he was known to wear a frock coat according to Utley's book. I do believe Billy was a couple years younger than history records due to a man who claimed Billy applied for work at his ranch and he said the kid looked a couple years younger than what he claimed at the time. I tried to date the pistols at one time but I'm not so sure anymore that I found out anything concrete. Whether it's him or not it is still a fantastic picture that I have enjoyed over the years.
