FRENCH TRINKET BOX

A lovely 19th Century antique porcelain trinket or dressing table box bythe ceramics firm Samson, Edmé et Cie of 7, Rue Vendôme (later Rue Béranger) in Paris, France. Designed in the Japanese ware style, it has four shapely panels featuring birds and foliate design against a white background, which contrasts beautifully with the mottled powder blue colour of the box.
The body and lid are fitted with an ormolu framework with a ribbed edge design. The underside of the box has a faux Oriental mark (Samson openly copied Oriental and European design of the 18th Century) and also the remnants of a paper label upon which the name London can be seen, which could be a later retailers label.

Date: Late 19th Century

Condition: Fair antique condition. The lid hinges well and clips shut nicely, but the metal framework does have some gaps (most noticeably to the front left corner) when closed as well as a gaps around the porcelain to the front and back of the lid, which has some old crusty deposits. The porcelain is in good condition.
