French Line: A large and lovely original French Line agency portrait of their first true luxury liner, the FRANCE of 1912.
The ship looks massive as she churns up the North River towards the French Line pier. Passengers and crew are on the decks enjoying the spectacle of the lower Manhattan skyline. Down at the waterline three tugs flying CGT houseflags are escorting their new flagship up river. Rich guy yachts and a sailboat are passing close-by. The rosy sky shows a new day is dawning in New York as French Line\'s first entry in the big ship trade arrives on what is probably her August 1912 maiden voyage.
The original frame is oak and measures 31\" by 47\". The artist is Richard Russell, someone whom I have not heard of before.
