This is a beautiful antique tin litho German "vasculum" or "botany box" which is so pretty! A botany box was a box that was carried to collect leaves, flowers, insects, etc. The box is just lovely and in very good condition. It has a wonderful image of two deer and the box has a beautiful deep green color. The box has a few surface scratches and a small ding in the back, but overall very good condition considering many of these are often found very scuffed and corroded. The box opens in the front. There is some age oxidation on the metal edges around the image and on the clasp. Some wear also to the metal inside the box. The shoulder strap has some age discoloration. But overall, this is quite an exquisite piece! The box measures 12 inches long and 4.5 inches from top to bottom and 3 inches wide. Such a beautiful display piece! Note: Some have also called these hunting toles perhaps to put lunch in while hunting. That has been debatable among collectors of these boxes. The most common description of these boxes is a botany box.
