This is a genuine offering of an original pair of spurs worn by Trooper Samuel Boulter,2nd Dragoons Royal Scots Greys, at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. According to the Boulter Family, these spurs were framed and captioned by Spink in London.
The official Roll Call for the Battle of Waterloo[link removed by ]lists Private Samuel Boulter as a member of Captain Fenton's troop.
There is a letter kept in the National Army Museum in London, dated September 23 1815, from Boulter to his brother that describes the Battle[link removed by ]This link states thatBoulter served with Captain Stuart's Troop of the 2nd (Royal North British) Regiment of Dragoons, charging at Waterloo with the Union Brigade.
These spurs have been handed down by descendents of the Boulter Family, finally ending up with Robert Boulter Esq. CMG OBE and Family. Robert Boulter was awarded the King George & Queen Mary 1935 medal and silver George VI and Queen Elizabeth 1937 Coronation medal. He was born on 6 April 1885 and after leaving Framlingham College in Suffolk went into the Civil Service. He entered the British Consular Service in Japan in 1907. He was made a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in 1923. He was the Commercial Secretary at the British Embassy in Tokyo from 1925 to 1929, followed by the Trade Commissioner in Singapore from 1929 to 1934, and then the Trade Commissioner in New Zealand. His final role before retiring was as Economic Adviser to the High Commissioner in New Zealand in 1945. On 1 January 1946 he was awarded the OBE “For services to HM Government in New Zealand during the War.” He died in 1973.
As historical objects these spurs are unique and of museum quality.
