This is a an exceptionally rare Basset Lowke model from the 1930's of the H.M.H.S. Cunard Mauretania in Hospital Ship White Livery.This is the actual model featured on Page 86 ok Derek's Head 1996 Book "Bassett Lowke Waterline Ship Models".Has the red base with original Bassett Lowke paper label.
This model has extremely fine detail so would likely date to the 1930's.
This was purchased back in 2016 when the Derek's collection was being privately sold. The hospital ship livery is extremely rare and this is likely to be the only one in existence.
It does not have the original box but comes with a purpose made case as was produced by Derek's son, Rupert Head.
It also comes with the original certificate of authenticity as provided to me by Rupert Head when it was purchase.
The model itself if 100 Ft to 1 inch scale so 7 7/8 inches long and the total length of the case is approximately 11 inches.
The model is in exceptional condition with no evident damage.
