People from all over the world collect, buy, sell and trade these unique gaming tokens. The first Silver Strikes were won from special slot machines in the Reno/Tahoe area of Nevada in 1992. The tokens have been issued with redeemable values of $2, $3, $7, $10, $20, $28, $40, $200 and $300. The most common denomination is $10. About the Barbary Coast Hotel and Casino:Flamingo Road and Las Vegas Boulevard - one the thebusiest intersections in Las Vegas! Across the street fromCaesars Palace at 3595 South Las Vegas Boulevard on a small 4.3 acres sat the Barbary Coast from 1979 - 2007.Theproperty was originally the site of Empy\'s Desert Villa from 1952. OnMarch 2, 1979, the location became the Barbary Coast, a shared partnership with Michael Gaughan (son of gaming icon Jackie Gaughan), Kenny Epstein,Tito Tiberti,Frank Toti and Jerry Herbst. They built the property for about $11.4 million. Over the years, this property along with many others became part of Coast Casinos Inc. In 2005, Boyd Gaming Purchased the property andentered into a merger where Coast Casinos became a wholly owned subsidiary of Boyd Gaming. In 2007, Boyd gaming gave the Barbary Coast to Harrah\'s Entertainment (now Caesar\'s Entertainment) in exchange for the 11 acre site of the demolished Westward Ho - which was going to be the Echelon Place projectbefore the recession hit Las Vegas. From 2007-2013, the property was rebranded Bill\'s Gamblin\' Hall and Saloon in honor of the company founder Bill Harrah. In 2013, Caesar\'s completely renovated the property into a luxury boutique hotel and changed the name to The Cromwell. Giada De Laurentiisopened her first restaurant in the resort. The property also features Drai\'s After Hours nightclub and Drai\'s Beach Club.
Interesting Fact #1: 1980 was the year of the horrific MGM fire (now Bally\'s). That day, Michael Gaughan stopped all gaming in the casino, moved the gaming tables and removed the patrons to make way for a first aid station for victims of the fire.Interesting Fact #2: TheBarbaryCoast was in various episodes of the TV show \"Vegas\" starring Robert Urich.Interesting Fact #3: The merger between Coast Casinos and Boyd Gaming was well received by the Nevada Gaming Commission - as both the Gaughans and Boyds were respected pioneer Las Vegas gaming families.Interesting Fact #4: Kenny Epstein currently owns and operates the El Cortez, formerly owned by long time friend Jackie Gaughan.
