James Dean's Race results:
- Race No. 2 – The San Luis Rey Trophy – 6 Laps – Production Cars from 1300cc to 2000cc and Modified Cars from 750cc to 1500cc. Dean finished 1st in class and 3rd overall in this wet weather race.
- Race No. 7 – The Kern County Trophy – 30 Laps (cut short to 25 laps because of earlier time delays) – Production and Modified Cars Under 1500cc (Misprinted in Race Program as “Over 1500cc”). Dean finished 2nd in class and 9th overall in this wet weather race. This was his last completed race in his short racing career.
Interesting fact:
#11 John von Neumann finished 1st overall in his Porsche 550 Spyder. Later that year John von Neumann, owner of Competition Motors, sold Dean a new Porsche 550 Spyder that he infamously crashed and died in on September 30, 1955.I acquired this collection from my stepfather who was at this race as a young boy. His parents were involved with the race and held on to all of the original items since the race took place in 1955. His father was the Assistant Chief Safety Inspector and mother was a Race Official. (The photographic prints were added to this collection recently)
