One Antique Wooden Award Tomahawk Hatchet Axe Made of wood: flat and cut out, some shaping and beveling, some carving/engraving, painting, and writing. CONDITION: repaired - Item was broken and repaired across the top of Pocahontas\' head. There is also normal chips and scratches with an item that is this old. Measures about 13¼ inches by almost 5 inches by approximately 3/8 inch thick. Unique Pictures of the actual item available in this listing. Text: A (in the bugle), J.E. WEST - HONOR CAMPER O Owasippe Camps B.S.A. 1922 Troop No. 1 - Whitehall Mich. - Wolf Troop No. 49 - Dayton Ohio POCAHONTAS POCAHONTAS text is stamped,carved, or engraved. There is some etching of her design. The whirlpool symbol on the point is a Scout Good Luck sign and also for Scout Thanks. Pochontas was born about 1595 in Virginia and died in England as Rebecca Rolfe in March of 1617. She married a John Rolfe,a tobacco planter, in 1614.She was a promoter in Englandof the Jamestown settlement. Interesting choice for a scout item made over 400 years later. OWASIPPE SCOUT RESERVATION (OSR) The camp originally opened in 1911 and has served many scouts! It currently holds the distinction of the oldest camp still open. About 2014 Calumet Council, Chicago Area Council #18l, Des Plaines Valley Council, and Northwest Suburban Council merged to form Pathway to Adventure Council, covering parts of Illinois (Chicago Metropolitan Area) and northwest Indiana. Des Plaines Council was formed in 1993 from Thatcher Woods & West Suburban Councils. Calumet #152 was formed in 1965 from Sauk Trails #158 & Pokagon Trails #159 Councils and included Twin City #154 in 1970.
