BRASS PLATED AMERICAN M1917 HELMET - RARE HELMET:

This helmet came from Waterbury Connecticut which was once known as BRASS CITY. It was called Brass City because its large and numerical heavy brass factories. On of these factories was Scovill Industries.
Scovill made brass shell casings for the military during most of the 20th century. When World War Two broke out the company formed a color guard for War Bond Drives Parades and other special events. To make the color guard stand out they acquired government surplus World War One doughboy helmets, disassembled them, stripped them off their paint and then brass plated the shells. They used a very high grade brass and most people swore that they were gold plated. The helmets were then reassembled using the original parts.
