is the title of the 1898 Bing and Grondahl Christmas plate, the FOURTH plate in the series – the longest running and most popular series of collector plates ever produced. It features a large seven-pointed Christmas Star in the center, with the impressed inscription JULE AFTEN 1898 (Christmas Eve 1898) surrounded by a garland of Christmas Roses. Unique among B&G Christmas plates, it is almost abstract in its simplicity, with strong Art Nouveau and Jungenstil influences. This plate was designed by Fanny Garde, a collectable artist in her own right and one of the finest artists ever to work for B&G, justly famous for her innovative designs. This is an excellent period piece by one of the best Scandinavian Art Nouveau artists.The scene is embossed on Danish porcelain and hand painted in traditional Copenhagen blue under the glaze. Diameter approximately 7 ¼ inches (18 cm). Pierced foot for hanging wire. Marked on the back with B&G’s three tower trademark, B&G COPENHAGEN – DANISH CHINA WORKS.Bing and Grondahl was founded in 1853. By the 1890s, it was one of the leading porcelain houses of the world, rivaling its close competitor Royal Copenhagen in artistic style and innovation. Bing and Grondahl merged with Royal Copenhagen in 1987, uniting their talents to meet changing demands and economic conditions.EXCELLENT CONDITION(no chips, cracks, or repairs) and FIRST QUALITY (no scratch through the trademark). The front of this plate has a few of the tiny black specks (cinders) and one brown spot (iron particles in the clay) that are so common on these early plates.
