BEAUTIFUL GOLD ENCRUSTED 8 7/8\" CABINET PLATE; JEWELS; MORIMURA NIPPON c1891:

Maker and marks: A heavily worn magenta back stamp is on the reverse of this exceptionally beautiful gold encrusted jewelled plate. It\'s the maple leaf mark of the renowned Japanese maker Morimura Brothers Nippon, the company that eventually became Noritake.
Though barely visible on this plate, the mark has a maple leaf to the left and the words \"Hand Painted\" to the right. It was in use from around 1891 to 1911 and is Van Patten\'s mark number 52.Source: Collector\'s Encyclopedia of Nippon Porcelain by Joan Van Patten.
Design: The superb quality of this plate certainly supports that attribution. Morimura Nippon porcelain is justifiably famous for its high quality and this plate meets that standard. It is classically designed and beautifully executed, featuring three cartouches of finely hand painted pink and purple roses, fine gold scrollwork and encrustation, and gold panels of tiny turquoise jewels.Size: The plate is 8 7/8 inches wide and weighs 12 ounces. Condition: It\'s in excellent condition for its age with no nicks, chips, cracks, scratches, stains, discoloration, repairs or significant wear. There is light wear to the gold edge and to several spots of the scrollwork; this is shown in the photos.
