These are fabulous, collectible beads. I bought all that the original owner had at her Bonham's estate sale a few years ago. She was well-known bead collector in California who'd been a world-wide flight attendant and bead afficionado. She collected beads from every place she landed and bought all of these found by a Ghana trader from hus runners. I offer on and won all of hers. Am keeping enough for a necklace and these are all I have left. They are 6-layer chevrons, ground at the perforation, melon shaped and small. They run in size from 11mm to 15 mm at the perforation; most are around 7 mm at the midpoint and most are slant-ground at the perforation. Hadn't seen others before; haven't since. There are 28 and at this price, a steal.

USPS clerks have told me 3 times that “we don’t have a ‘fragile class’ anymore, but I pack very well, better than the average bear. Sorry, no returns.

A note about my bead collection – I’m chronologically advanced (old) and have been collecting since my gran gave me a necklace of “pop beads” when I was 12 many decades ago. I started to sell the collection off months ago because the family person who was to inherit it, passed and I “can’t take them with me.”

Why collect beads? Holding beads, particularly ancient and antique ones, makes me think of their meaning to people before me. They were used as money, as personal adornment, as talismans to protect against evil, as religious representations of faith and self-discipline, as small works of art, as stand-alone trade items in exchange for anything and everything. I think of the bead makers, the people who acquired them, how far the bead has traveled, about those who held them before me, and the purpose they held for that person. And if you were a recent shopper at my home sale and stole a baggie of very old cast bronze Dogon African drop bells with stone clappers, and wanted my name so she could tell her friends on FB about my beads, then feel free to drop them back by my front porch.
