Austin-Healey was a one ofthe most famous British sports car makers. The marque was established through ajoint venture arrangement, set up in 1952 between Leonard Lord of the Austin division ofthe British Motor Corporation (BMC) and Donald Healey, a renowned automotiveengineer and designer. Austin-Healey produced cars until 1972 when the 20-yearagreement between Healey and Austin came to an end. Donald Healey left thecompany in 1968 when British Motor Holdings (BMC had merged with Jaguar Cars in1966 to form BMH) was merged into British Leyland. Healey joined Jensen Motorswho had been making the \"big Healeys\" since their inception in 1952,and became their chairman in 1972. After Donald Healey sold his originalbusiness, Donald Healey Motor Company, the Healey brand was registered to a newfirm, Healey Automobile Consultants, which the Healey family sold to HFIAutomotive in 2005. Three model series were made by Austin-Healey, the 100 ,3000 and the Sprite. The Austin-Healey3000 was a sports car built from 1959 to 1967, by Jensen Motors for theAustin-Healey marque, and is the best known of the \'big\' Healey models. The3000 was a successful car which won its class in many European rallies in itsheyday - and is still used in competition by enthusiasts today. The car was originallyto be called the \"Mille Miglia\" after the famous sports car race, butthe displacement-based \"3000\" name stuck instead. Both the 3000 andthe 100 before it were known simply as \"the Austin-Healey\" in the1950s, since the company was essentially a single-vehicle marque. The followingAustin-Healey 3000 versions were made:

o 1959 - 1961 BN7 Mark I (2 seat), BT7 Mark I (2+2 seats)

o 1961 - 1962 BN7 Mark II (2 seat), BT7 Mark II (2+2 seats),BJ7 Mark II (2 seat)

o 1962 - 1964 BJ7 Mark II (roll-up windows)

o 1964 - 1967 BJ8 Mark III

Pat Moss -Carlsson was one of the most successful women rally drivers of alltime. She scored three outright wins and seven podium finishes in Internationalrallies, and was crowned European Ladies\' Rally Champion five times (1958,1960, 1962, 1964 and 1965). She was the younger sister of Formula One GrandPrix star Stirling Moss, and was married to the Swedish rally driver ErikCarlsson from 1963 on. She was the author of The Story So Far (1967, WilliamKimber and Co - ISBN 0-7183-0440-3) and co-author (with her husband) of The Artand Technique of Driving (1965, Heinemann publishers). Patricia grew up inBray, Berkshire. She was taught todrive at the age of eleven by her elder brother Stirling, but shestarted her sporting career on horseback, becoming a well-known and successfulshowjumper and member of the British showjumping team. She started driving inclub rallies in 1953, after being introduced to the sport by her then boyfriendKen Gregory, who was Stirling\'s manager. In thesummer of 1954, Pat bought herself a Triumph TR2 and started more rallyingseriously. She contacted Standard-Triumph to see if they would cover herexpenses to drive her own car on the 1955 RAC Rally, but they declined.Fortunately, the MG Car Company offered Pat both a works MG TF 1500 andexpenses, and so began a relationship that would last seven years and net threechampionships - and bring the British Motor Corporation huge publicitybenefits. As a BMC works team driver, Pat had her breakthrough in 1958, whenshe drove her Morris Minor to fourth place on the RAC Rally. She later achievedanother fourth place at the Liège-Rome-Liège in an Austin Healey 100/6, andalso won the first of her five European Ladies\' Rally Championship titles. Two yearslater, Moss took an impressive overall victory at the Liège-Rome-Liège in anAustin-Healey 3000, and went on to finish second at that year\'s Coupe des Alpesand at the 1961 RAC. In 1962, she was third at the East African Safari Rally ina Saab 96, and at the RAC with the Austin-Healey. Her biggest achievement, however, was winning the Dutch Tulip Rally in a Mini Cooper. Although Mossconsidered the Mini \"twitchy, and pretty unruly on the limit\", thiswas the first of many international rally wins for the car. In 1963, Mossjoined Ford and managed a sixth place at the Acropolis Rally in her Lotus-tunedFord Cortina. That year, she married fellow rally driver Erik Carlsson on 3 March 1963 in London. In 1964,Moss switched to the Saab factory team to partner Carlsson, after Ford\'sunsuccessful attempt to sign him, competing in eleven international rallies. Her most notable results were third at the Acropolis, fourth at theLiège-Sofia-Liège and at the RAC, and fifth at the Monte Carlo Rally. Thefollowing year, she came third in the Monte. In 1968, Moss joined Lancia todrive the new Fulvia. She disliked the car\'s strong understeer, but drove thecar to 14th place at the Monte and later a second place at the 1968 RallyeSanremo, losing only to Pauli Toivonen in a Porsche 911. Her other notableresults of the season included winning the Sestriere Rally, and finishingeighth at the Acropolis and seventh at the Tour de Corse. At the 1969 Monte,Moss drove her Fulvia to sixth place. In late 1969, Moss and Carlsson had adaughter, Suzy Carlsson, who was later to become a successful showjumper. Mosswas then becoming less active in rallying, but did join Renault Alpine anddrive her Alpine A110 to tenth place at the 1972 Monte Carlo Rally, untilfinally retiring in 1974. Pat Moss ever so sadly passed away in 2008. She issurvived by her husband and daughter. She was one of the greatest rally ridersof all times that had a truly magnificent and superior riding style.
