Attributed To Fabian Homer Zuni Carved Mother Of Pearl Bear Fetish #353:
$150.00

This beautiful Zuni fetish carving features a mother of pearl bear. The bear measures 2 1/2 x 5/8 x 1 5/8 inches and is adorned with jasper arrowhead accents. The piece is a wonderful addition to any Native American or fetish collection. Handmade in the United States by a Zuni artist, this bear fetish is a unique representation of Native American art and culture. The tribal affiliation is Zuni and the material used is Mother of Pearl and Jasper. This carving is part of the Fetishes & Totems category and is a collectible item from 1935-now. Add this stunning piece to your collection today! I received this information from a collector that was kind enough to share some of his thoughts with me about this carving. None of this is confirmed, but based on what he\'s written, he seems to know what he\'s talking about. Just some extra knowledge to help decide if this carving is worth buying. Thank you..... The body shape keeps pointing to Fabian Homer as the carver. The material also indicates a proficiency with shell material, which is fairly rare. The circular plug that is visible on the left flank is probably a filler as mother of pearl can often include holes in the shell. Fabian is unfortunately deceased, according to ZARTeam. The hump over the front legs is the key detail. I find no other carver with that particular profile shape. This would also explain the attribution to a Homer family member. Fabian was accomplished as both a carver and a potter, and his work is valuable as well. He was the great grandson of Leekya Deyuse, and a nephew of Bernard Jr and Juana Homer.
