Apollo 11 Moon boot Print by SD Studios FULL SIZE NOT A SCULPTURE WHAT???:
$225.00

Here is something I can GUARANTEE you have never seen before (unless you actually saw this product somewhere before...

And then...um...nevermind.) Onward...

This is a FULL-SIZE, EXACT recreation of the famous Apollo 11 boot print photo! It measures approximately 11 inches by 16 inches by 1.5 inches! It is BIG!

It is NOT a sculpture. It is an actual casting from the moon!

Wait...

WHAT???!!! NO WAY!

YES WAY!

It was created using some pretty amazing processes by several people to get it to the point that it is at now. Read on...

This is your chance to actually OWN a perfect 3D recreation of the most famous boot print in history! Unless you are going to go to the moon and dig it up, there is NO other way to obtain this!!

This product was originally developed by Master Replicas Group (MRG) back in 2019. Unfortunately, MRG succumbed to the Covid epidemic and the state of PA literally sent troopers to shut down the MRG office... under threat of a $40,000 fine if they re-opened... so that they wouldn't spread the man-made, totally-on-purpose Covid virus... That circus resulted in the bankruptcy of the company shortly thereafter. (loooong story).

Fast forward a few years...SD Studios bought all of MRG's inventory out of bankruptcy and we are now selling and/or recreating many of their original products. This is one of my favorites!

Here is the text that was originally published by MRG as promotion for the product:

As part of his scientific duties during the Apollo 11moonwalk, astronaut Buzz Aldrin photographed his own boot prints to document thecompression of the fine-grained lunar soil.

In particular, the image of one of these boot prints capturedthe public imagination and became a visual icon of space exploration.

Although only two photographs were made of this boot print, artist Whitney Potter was able to derive photogrammetry, or 3D depthinformation, from the images. The resulting 3D model captures the details of the lunar surface and the complete shape of theboot print.

Returning to the original Apollo photos as reference, artistJeff Stanislawski greatly enhanced the photogrammetry model into a printable, accurate 3D sculpture. Details that were obscured by deep shadow in the photoswere reconstructed, and the tiny rocks and mounds of dust adjacent to theboot print are faithfully reproduced.

The artisans at Acme Design in Elgin,Illinois 3D printed Jeff’s model, producing an accurate 1:1 representation ofthe historic boot print scene. The master pattern was then cast in super-strongresin for durability and hand-finished to resemble the fine, dusty lunarsurface in every detail.

There ya go.

The product was VERY popular and MRG sold out every unit that was produced over two years. Unfortunately, the process for manufacturing them was labor-intensive and the open-back, hollow-cast, light-weight shells required complex molds that didn't last very long, pre-colored resin, and pressure-injection equipment. And the MOQ and unit-cost were both rather high, resulting in a higher-than-optimal retail price.

As part of the sale, I obtained the boot print master pattern and started pondering...

And the folks at SD Studios did some experimenting and we figured out a way to cast these solid, but still have them relatively light-weight. We used a combination of Smooth-On 305 resin, colorant, and Ure-fil 15 to produce a very strong casting with flawless detail reproduction and zero air-bubbles. Since we are producing these in our own shop now, using a far-less complex process, we can also lower the retail price a bit as well!

Because of the different process, we now paint each one of these by hand, so the color will vary SLIGHTLY from unit to unit. But we have copied the original's color VERY closely!

This is one of my FAVORITE replicas from MRG and we are very excited to be able to FINALLY bring this one back to the public!!!

NO returns accepted! But WHY would you return it? You would have to be crazy!
I mean...come on! Look at that thing! It is AMAZING!!!
