Apollo 11 - Lightweight Lunar Hammer - Aluminum - Accurate High Quality Replica:
$850.00

As part of Orbital Surplus\' replica line:
We offer extremely accurate high quality replicas of the Apollo Hammers.
Created using original blueprints and using the same materials and mil-spec hardware, you won\'t find a better replica of this unique space hammer. To our knowledge, no one has ever offered such accurate replicas of these iconic tools of the Apollo Lunar missions.
We have both, the early Apollo \"lightweight\" hammer, as well as the later heavy hammer.
This listing is for the Lightweight hammer replica
The Lightweight hammer was flown on Apollo 11,12 and 13.The Heavy hammer was used on Apollo 14 to 17. (see our other listings for this version)
Note: We have been receiving multiple request for when these will be available and this is a very limited run of only 20 of each style. (8 of which are already sold)
These are machined in 6061 aluminum, as per print specifications, with hollow aluminum handles, and steel heads, vacuum metalized with aluminum, per original specification. The original blueprint also requires the aluminum coating to be removed from the hammer face, as well as the chisel end.
The lightweight hammer featured a spring loaded catch, at the base of the hammer, to allow the hammer to be fixed to an extension handle. The catch is released by squeezing the 2 knurled panels together which moves 2 stainless steel tabs inward. The Orbital Surplus replica has the same function, and even uses the same Mil-spec spring, from the Lee spring company in NY.Each hammer has the correct Part & Assy. numbers and serial numbers starting with OS/N 2001 (originals were 1000 series)(See the last two images above, of one of the original hammers, now in the Smithsonian Museum.)
Dimensions: L- 406mm W- 155.5mm D- 33mm / L- 16\" W- 6.12\" D- 1.30\"Weight: 960.7g / 33.8oz.Here at Orbital Surplus, we collect odds and ends from anywhere in the galaxy. So depending on what empire has collapsed, space freighter has crashed or Transport \"got lost\", we never know what we will receive next. However, we have lost our lease on the asteroid we have called home for more than 30 solar cycles and have to move. So we are finding stuff we forgot we had, and this is where you luck out, cause it all has to go!
