On offer here is an antique, Woods CHEMIST, Areca Nut Tooth Paste VARIATION. This one is transferred with the letters MPS which stand for, Member of the Pharmaceutical Society. Woods was based out of Plymouth on the South Coast of England. Although Woods was a member of the MPS from the 1880\'s, he only placed this MPS initialing on his pots much later than his original membership.Lid measures 2 7/8\" in diameter and stands 1 1/2\" tall when lid is astride the base section.The Areca Nut : The \"Areca\" or \"Betel\" nut was/is aMiddle Eastern Palm nut whose crushed oils were mixed with flavorants &used in Tooth Paste in the Victorian era, because in that period of time, theybelieved that the oil of this particular nut had hygienic and astringent qualitiesfor the cleaning of teeth. In more recent times, laboratory tests were runon the composition of this nut and it was foundthat it was possibly onlygood as a mild laxative. Even more concerning, that it revealed traces of a carcinogen(substances that have cancer causing potential!)
