Here is a nice Antique Travel Lap Writing Desk with brass trim and a great interior for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself! The white specks showing in the pics on the piece are not there, were on the lens of camera when item pics were taken.

This fine antique travel writing desk is being offered to you at a price below what you would see in a high end sale house or gallery, as we have been selling such items out of our home for over 35 years. We can therefore better control our acquisition costs, keep commission costs low (if applicable), and finally, we don\'t have the overhead that the higher end houses and galleries experience

Just a beautifully done travel writing desk here. The case probably dates to the mid to latter 1800s. The case appears is made of Wood and has brass corner trim and other trim going around all the edges with the exception of the back and bottom. Nice brass escutcheon on top with nothing inscribed on it. Has working brass handles still in place on both sides of the case. The Travel Desk is probably of English origination, but that is just a guess.

The wood lid does not appear to be warped in any way as you see with many of these pieces. The lid does not fits down on the base of the case as should currently as the brass lock tabs in the base are making contact with the brass plate they should slide into in the top. So, will need some adjustment to get working again as should.

Some minor surface scratching to the wood case, but does not take away from it\'s beauty. A crack along the top right front of the case which goes across almost 1/2 of its length. Cracks along the bottoms on the sides as well. A watermark on the top left of the case, did not attempt to remediate.The case still retains its structural integrity.The desk shows wear and tear from use and age. Old light green felt is pretty much worn off the bottom of the case.

The brass lock is there and the key to operate the lock is with the case and does operate the lock.

Not sure of the maker or country of origination of the box. Probably English. The purplish felt writing surface is in place, shows quite a bit of wear.The section for the inkwells and pens are in place. The wood tray piece to hold pens is in place as well. No secret compartment with this desk that we can ascertain.No pens or inkwells come with the piece.

The Antique Travel Writing Desk in stand is 20-7/16\" tall, by 20-5/8\" across, by 11-5/16\" wide. The Desk by itself is 6-3/26\" tall, by 19-15/16\" across, by 10.75\" wide. We take great pride in is our wrapping to ensure that yourorder is safely shipped to you. Youmight find our shipping costs higher than other sellers, but it is due to theextra time, packing care, and materials we utilize. Of over 900 packages shipped last year, wehad only two items with issues, a 99.8% damage free delivery rate. Keep in mind, we are not shipping soft goods, like shirts orpants. We are shipping vintage/antique items that are fragile and requirespecial care.

We also obtain insurance on any item that was bought for $50or more, and require signature on delivery for items that are valued at over$200. Plus we have to pay the 11.75% ofthe final value and shipping fees that and PayPal charges.

Returns Policy

Returns are accepted by seller within 30 days of receipt of item where an item is not as described. The Buyer will be assessed a 15% restocking fee of the Item and Shipping Cost should they decide to return this item for whatever the reason.
Please note that a restocking fee is charged toto cover costs related to the loss of listing time and other potential sales, plus the amount of care and time that goes into preparing our unique and fragile items for shipping.
