W offer for your consideration this vintage arts & crafts metalwork canister by SilverCrest.
SilverCrest was the trademark used by the Smith Metal Arts Company that was formed in 1919 by Frederick C Smith, who had been the head salesman for the Heintz Metal Arts Shop founded by Otto Heintz in 1906. After the sudden death of Mr Heintz in 1918, Smith and some other Heintz craftsmen split away and formed this new company.Heintz Metal Art Shop continued until is succumbed to the depression in 1930.
The young designer who worked with Smith Metal Arts at the time wasPeter Muller-Munk, he may be the designer of this vase.This canister stands approximately 3.5 inches tall, the lid diameter is approximately 3 1/8 inches in diameter, The barrel is approximately 3 3/32nd in diameter.The canister weighs approximately 6.4 ounces.The vase carries the SilverCrest, Silver Decorated Bronze, stamp and the (Pattern # ?) 408 33As well as the stylized lettering SMA Co. in the logo stampThe fit of the lid is comfortably snug, and tight enough to keep whatever is stored fresh for awhile.I imagine, the times being what they were, this canister could be used to store cigarettes ?
Issues: This vase is anywhere from 80 to 92 years old, It fortunately has no dents, but there are signs of corrosionnear the edge of lid. (see picture)The sides of the canister have developed a wonderful patina. We cleaned the bottom enough to clearly reveal the makers logo.
