Description:Antique Victorian Wallpaper Roller Lamp Hand Carved Oak Rare Impressive Design
One-of-a-kind, early 20th century lamp made from an exceptional carved wood wallpaper roller. Printing rollers were used in the production of wallpaper in the 1800\'s. The roller on this lamp has a rare large and elegant hand carved design. Multiple rollers were used to create a finished print, so even though you may find other rollers/ lamps, it\'s rare to find one with such a large, important piece of the design. I think this example may also be older, possibly earlier than Victorian because the surface is carved wood, and because this one roller has a lot of the overall design on it. The earliest prints were made with only 4 rollers (so each roller had to hold a lot of the design), whereas late 1800\'s prints could be made with up to 20 rollers (so each of the 20 rollers may have been more plain, each holding a smaller fraction of the design).
Wood is a golden brown color. Very heavy hand carved wood seems to be oak.
The lamp portion is fully functioning - you can see the lamp illuminated in photos. The roller sits on a wood base with felt bottom, and has a brass top. It does not come with a shade or harp (shade holder ~$10 online), but does have the little arms/slots (harp holder) where you can attach the hardware to hold a shade of your choice.

- Stain on wood base is worn from age. It looks nice and antique, but could be re-stained if desired.- I cleaned/polished the base with wood oil, but did NOT touch the roller or brass top in case you prefer to leave some patina. ON REQUEST, I can clean the roller and/ or polish the brass before sending.- Brass top has some dark marks that may or may not be polishable. These have character and just look nice and antique, but please see photos.- The roller has a light crack, which you can see in photos. It does not look like damage - looks like it has always been there and fits with the overall character of the roller/ lamp.
