This is a wonderful original.This comes from the estate of a wealthy local family that collected antiques and cars. They had some incredible portraits in the home (check my store for the 2 Neoclassical Neapolitan painting portraits I am also selling). When I bought this one, I wasnt exactly sure what the story was with it. I could tell it was good and recognized the name on the label on the back of the frame but that was about it. With research I really learned how great this is. First the print. It is a wonderful rare mezzotint from 1844 by TW Huffam after a Frederick Lock portrait. The only other place I have been able to find this print is in the British Museum. Print measures 14 x 12 1/2 inches and is truly stunning. Original period painting with watercolor and gouache make it a really stunning example. Trimmed to just outside the image, publication information is belowthe image. Not laid down and really stunning.

To make this piece even better is the original frame that the print is in. This is a stunning original frame made by James Del Vecchio. If you are unfamiliar with the Italian furniture and frame maker who settled in Dublin and London from the late 18th Century until the mid 19th Century just google him and you can find full biography and history of the company including his listing in the Dictionary of British and Irish Furniture Makers. This is a stunning original frame measuring 18 1/4 x 15 1/4 x 2 inches. The condition is superior with just a few very minor nicks. The inside of the frame would hold a picture measuring up to the same size as the print. It is the original bubble glass. Inside the frame is a removable lemon gold liner that makes the visible image 12 3/4 x 10 1/2 inches. The original wood backing has the original Del Vecchio label that seems to date from right aound the exact time of the print , around the mid 1840s. Really a stunning original frame. Definitely museum quality. Both pieces are really museum quality. I debated separating them but based on them being together for nearly 200 years, I felt it best for them to stay together.
