Polychrome Oriental pattern 314 Ironstone 12\" Platter attributed to Wood & Brownfield 1837-1850 or Careys, Lane End 1823-1842. Measuring approx.11 3/4\" long & 9 1/2\" wide, this platter is in very good used antique condition with no chips or cracks found and very little signs of use or crazing. The mark on the bottom is a coat of arms with Improved Ironstone China under it, but no maker name. An example of this platter\'s pattern is on page 95 of William Brownfield Illustrated Guide by Tim H. Peake. Apparently another pottery, Careys, Anchor Works Lane End (1823-1842), produced very similar patterns (both W&B\'s pat. 303 & 328) in ironstone and both W&B and Careys used the same type trademarks along with many other Staffordshire potters in those days. I found the trademark with Careys (see last photo) under it and I\'m inclined to believe this is probably a Careys piece. According to Tim Peake, both potters used the number 303 for this pattern.
