For your consideration, you are viewing an Antique piece of Military History, you are viewing an Antique Circa 1890s piece of Spanish military history. This bayonet is a Spanish M1892/93 Mauser Knife bayonet with a leather mount Scabbard for use on the 7 mm. Spanish M1893 Mauser Rifle. Also used on the later M1943 (98k) type short rifles. The M1892/93 hilt was patterned closely after the German M1871/84 bayonets, with the distinctive \"humpback handle\" and pronounced pommel beak. The Spanish M1893 Mauser rifle was made famous during the Spanish-American War of 1898 and was Designated Cuchillo Bayoneta Modelo 1892/93.

The Spanish M1893 Mauser Rifle and bayonets were used in the Riff War (also called the War of Melilla) which was an armed conflict that started in late 1920 and didn\'t finish until 1927. The war was between the Spanish colonial powers and the Berber Tribes of the mountainous Rif region of northern Morocco. The Berber tribes were led by the infamous Muhammad Abd el-Krim, in the beginning, the Riffian\'s forces imposed several defeats on the Spanish forces by using guerrilla tactics with captured European weapons. Lucky for the Spanish as the French intervened in the conflict establishing a joint collaboration with Spain that finally finished with the Alhucemas Landing. By 1926 the area had been pacified and Muhammad Abd-el-Krim and his troops surrendered in July 1927; the Spanish regained the previously lost territory and started the dissolution of the Republic of the Riff.

These particular bayonets were made by both Artilleria Fábrica de Toledo and Simpson & Co. of Suhl, in Germany. This example was manufactured by Simpson & Co.

At the beginning of the 20th century, only cavalry trooper swords and officer-model bayonets were produced at Artilleria Fábrica. After the Spanish Civil War, production was reduced to officer swords only. With the reduced demand for quality swords, the Artilleria Fábrica closed in the late 1970s. Two hundred years of blade forging excellence had reached an end.

KNIGHTSGOLD This antique bayonet is circa 1900s used, and in good condition for its age and uses in warfare. The wood grips are both complete and in good condition with a line indent mark on one side, scuff marks consistent with use and fit tightly to the tang, the release/lock button is in working order. The 24.8 cm blade has a worn bright polished finish with an aged grey patina with some scattered spots and no pitting. The edge is not sharp and has no dings. The remaining metal on the cross-guards, pommel and mortise has a bright polished finish with some wear, indent marks and an aged grey patina. The scabbard leather is supple, the stitching intact, the metal locket mount has no dents, the drag has a couple of dents, both with an aged grey patina finish and the staples are tight and fit tightly together with the bayonet. # Please note that the photographs form part of the description; Super-sized photos are available for you to view in the gallery, to show up the finer details and conditions.

FRAGILE MAIL: If you require a Fragile Service, you will need to find a courier company that offers this service. Australia Post Extra Cover Insurance will cover you for loss only. Australia Post does not offer a fragile service so items cannot be covered for damage in transit. I always add lots of extra weight to the postage cost to make sure your item is well packed making its journey to you intact. I use heavy-duty bubble wrap, newspaper and recycled boxes.
