This listing is for an Antique English Silver JD&S Pocket Watch Clock Inkwell Birmingham 1904 Read. The lid features a pocket watch that is inserted under a removable top. (Top cap has a simple twist to lock mechanism like a modern safety bottle) The face of the watch is revealed when lid is opened making for a nice presentation on a desk, table, shelf, or mantle. The top is engraved “Mabel” in a simple but elegant flowing script. It has a nice removable reservoir for ink, making cleaning easy. I believe the insert is original. The bottom has a faceted pattern visually similar to a daisy & button pattern. It has a solid and quite heavy crystal (possibly glass) base. It is extensively hallmarked by the maker J.G. & S. Along with the marks of Birmingham & England, and a 1904 date code. The design is excellent for many rooms and a large variety of styles of decor. It makes this an excellent little extra piece for your collection, one your friends definitely wont have! It is a great collectors item, for use display gifting or decor

It is in good condition, with a nice patina to the silver. Currently the pocket watch is not running. It appears to be overwound, and will only tick for a few seconds as if it wants to run but can’t quite do it, I do notice the second hand does not move. I wager with some tinkering it could be repaired. I have not disassembled it at all, nor tinkered with it, just opened up the case to show the movement. The inner case plate is tricky to get open, but seals nice and tightly. The pocketwatch is unmarked by a maker. The crystal/glass base has 2 areas of chipping, one on a corner edge and the other, smaller, chip is on a bottom corner. They are not massive or in danger of spreading, easily missed when faced away from the viewer. I have not cleaned it beyond a gentle dry wipe to avoid patina removal.
