Antique Royal 18K Gold Victorian Diamond Brooch Order of The Garter Royalty Pin:
$44995.00

LOT-PM97. For your consideration is an exceedingly rare and historically important, one of a kind, c.1850 antique Royal Victorian Order of The Garter metal award pin / brooch. Constructed from solid 14K and 18K gold, natural untreated old mine rose diamonds, and guilloche enamel. Royal Order of The Garter investiture booch in the form of a Garter Belt, embellished with a gemset natural diamond fluer de lis at center of 18K gold relief circular disc. The Fleur des Lis is set in silver with 33 rose diamonds. Featuring the motto of the Order of the Garter in French: \"HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE\". Twenty silver letters containing 96 rose cut diamonds.

Weight is 27.47 grams. Diameter is 42.0mm. Depth is 4.0mm. Fluer de lis measures approximately 24.0mm x 16.0mm. Condition is original. Featuring absolutely beautiful cobalt blue guilloche enamel. Minor chip to the guilloche enamel, as pictured. Royal Order of The Garter brooch is not hallmarked, although the pin (which appears to be more modern) is stamped 14K. It is believed that the pin was attached to the brooch within the past 75 years. The back has a transparent cellulose-like window, likely for the purpose of securing a personal memento. Royal provenance unknown. Museum quality. Authentic and correct. A splendid piece of the utmost rarity and importance.

Honi soit qui mal y pense is a maxim in the Anglo-Norman language, a dialect of Old Norman French spoken by the medieval ruling class in England, meaning \"shamed be whoever thinks ill of it\", usually translated as \"shame on anyone who thinks evil of it\". It is the motto of the British chivalric Order of the Garter, the highest of all British knighthoods, except in Scotland.
