ROMANIA-RELIGIOUS AND SPIRITUAL
An end of 19th century Romanian Orthodox silver and forward-plated icon showing the figures of St. Constantine and his mother St. Helen.Written in Romanian on top: S(fintu)("Saint" in Romanian) Constantin-SF Elena. The cross in the middle may be allusion to the finding for the True Cross of the Crucifixion in the Holy Land in a search presumably funded by St. Helen herself. This may have been a travel icon with the back of the icon having a felt backing and there is a later hanging tool attached en verso.Size:5 inches H x 5 inches L x 1.75 inches W.
Provenance: from a German collector (collector's notes are affixed to back)Condition: excellent detail condition, some surface scratches from use as well as some silver tarnishing.
