Knob Shaped Handel For Your Antique Butter Print A beautiful antique lathe turned wood wooden butter print. The butter print, which is made of a single piece of wood is decorated with a deep carved wheat sheaf design. The print has a large flat surface with a deep carved design of wheat sheaf surrounded by plants on either side. The design is framed in double incised lines and the edge of the print is decorated with a toothed design. The print has a knob like handle on top. The entire piece appears to be made of a softwood. See page 159 in Paul Kinding's book "Butter Prints and Molds" Published by Schiffer Publishing Limited of West Chester PA in 1986 for a similar example. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: Mid 1800.Origin: Southeastern Pennsylvania.Size: Measures ~4 1/4" in diameter at the design part and is ~3 1/8" high. The print weighs ~4 ounces.Maker: Unknown.Marks: Unmarked.Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Very good antique butter print with a nice and rather well executed design. A nice antique butter print having a nice warm dark patina, which would make a great addition to your collection.Condition: The piece is in excellent condition given its age and utilitarian function. It has no repairs, but has a small spot at the edge where some of the wood broke-off. It has general wear, scratches, several age cracks with one very obvious and measuring ~1 1/4" long, some soiling, and a couple of stains commensurate with its age and use. It also has developed a nice warm age patina which makes it look great. It is generally darker than the flash photography presented suggest. Please see photos to appreciate its beauty and condition.
