This antique letter from Parkman, Ohio - dated Aug 19th / 77 offers a fascinating glimpse into the life of a new cow owner in the post-Civil War era. The author mentions purchasing cows, but also notes that one is are sick and not producing milk and other cannot be milked successfully.
