Removed from a wrecked Central Pacific Railway Car Sacramento California over Six decades ago.

came from a 70 horder/collecter who is having to sell everything now due to problems with the county. he has a lot of great old stuff that has not seen the light of day in many many moons. this great ol' link and pin coupler was part of this collection. No Markings. I was told that the "links" were sometimes property marked as they were stolen a lot, but who knows if that is really true.

common sense tells me; if that is the case, only later made examples would have had the markings. I cannot see an old west rail yard order that all existing links should be removed from cars, stamped and then put back on. that just does not make any sense and even if that was the case. Just how many would've been done before these devices were banned in 1890?

my dad was a blacksmith and metal worker. He had antique stamps everywhere and could've marked items like this and no one would have ever known. this being said, I myself would be speculative of any device like this that is hallmarked.
