Antique Native American Woven Coil Basket 1928 Approx:
$180.00

This basket was purchased in February of 1928 (6 months before the start of the Great Depression) by my grandmother. My grandparents were moving from Chicago to California . My grandfather\'s company sent him and his family in the company car to open an office in Los Angeles, California, with a huge bonus and increased salery + a car and house. All their personal belonging were shipped, so they only had suit cases and car blankets. On this trip with two young boys, became horrible in a Model-T on mostly dirt roads, so on day 7 of the trip - somewhere in either New Mexico or near the Grand Cannyon, at a roadside Indian trading post, my grandmother bought 4 of these baskets to hold snacks in for all 4 of them. She also bought several rugs for the floor boards of the car and to lay down and lay in the trunk. She also bought 4 blankets because the car had no heat or air conditioning, and the desert was cold. When they moved into the house she put all of this in storage, for keepsakes of the trip. When they passed these items with the story was devided and given to the grand children. I have had this in my possession behind glass for over 30+ years. I have never used it, and it doesn\'t match my taste. I have the story and that is most important -

BTW: the move saved the family from the horror of the Great Depression - they used the Bonus to live off of, and because the house and car were part of the incentive and given to them, they had no payments. It was a very lucky move.

When you look straight into the basket the pattern makes a flower shape - I was told this is the flower of life - whick is a sacred symbol in Native Americans.
