Up for your consideration is a very old (late 1800's) hand painted tankard mug.
Features the backstamp M Z Austria (Moritz Zdekauer)
Signed by the artist - M.E. Robertson
Circa 1880's

Features a wonderfully hand painted quote - "EVERY SWALLOW MAKES A FRIEND - THEM'S MY SENTIMENTS".
The hand painting on this piece is so unique, very well executed and the details are stunning. It is both whimsical and cheerful. You can't help but smile when you look at it.
It depicts a barefoot child in coveralls feeding swallows in front of a whitewashed board fence. A grassy area with a pond in the background and two beautifully hand painted swallows in the sky. and a third swallow in flight above the boys outstretched hand.
The quote is done in gold gilt and the handle is also a stunning focal point. It is done in a gold crackle over a deep mahogany. There is also gold gilt rimming the top edge of this thick heavy tankard.

Condition is Superb. NO chips, cracks or repairs. Art work is crisp with no loss of gold gilt. Colors are vibrant and beautiful. This piece comes from my private collection.
It is part a large 3 generation collection and belonged to my Great Grandmother. It has been in my family since the late 1800's. It has never before been offered for sale.
It has been on display in a curio cabinet for as long as I can remember. It always seems to get attention from guests. It is just one of those pieces that stands out among all the others.
It is a very RARE find. In all my years of collecting I have NEVER seen another like this one.

It would make a prized addition to any collection or a fantastic conversation piece. Just so very unique!!
