A 3 3/8 inch tallbeautiful light PURPLE AMETHYST colored antique Long Pine Nebraskasouvenir cup. Note itis antiqueSun Colored Amethyst (SCA)glasswhich,with few exceptions, dates from before 1914.It has some beautifulFLOWER BOUQUETSenameled on the sides of it. This is an ORIGINAL ANTIQUEblown glass CUPdating back to thelate1800s - early 1900s,well over 100 YEARS old.

Cup reads: \"Souvenir of / Long Pine, Nebr.\" with bouquets of colorful enameled flowers.
Condition: Glass is in good solid condition. It has some traces of age wear/haze, NO chips, cracks, dings, damage, etc. Please see pictures for best idea of overall appearance / condition.
Age: An ORIGINAL ANTIQUE blown-glass cup, ca.late1800s - early 1900s.

A great looking Sun Colored Amethyst (SCA) souvenir antique cup from olden dayLong Pine Nebraska.Back in the daysouvenirs like this were often won at small-town fairs, sold in small businesses or at tourist\'s stands during large events and celebrations.Thelettering is finely printed in silver letteringwhich gives it a very appealing look against CRANBERRY RED colored glass. And it has a pair of nicely COLOREDpainted or enameled bouquet of flowers along side thesilver lettering. The highlight is the color, the light purple amethyst color. You hear about old glass turning purple ... this amethyst color is the result of it being blown with glass that had manganese added to it. Manganese is a mineral that was pulverized and added to vats of liquid glass, to make the glass crystal clear, otherwise it is naturally a deep aqua marine color. Only clear glass from before 1915 had manganese in it. When exposed to sunlight the manganese starts to oxidize and turns a nice amethyst or lavender color, the result of a chemical reaction. The longer it is in the sun light, the darker purple it turns. A glass item has to be old enough to begin with, as with few exceptions, only clear glass from before 1915 had manganese in it. With the start of WWI, manganese was no longer available as foreign imports decreased and domestic resources turned towards the war effort. NO MORE purple glass after 1915! Not only does this amethyst color add to its look, but it also authenticates it as truly being antique,check it out!
