Selling a rarely seen flag honoring King Edward VII on what I assume was the occasion of his coronation in 1902 following the death of Queen Victoria.
When I acquired the flag it was quite stiff and rather dirty with a hole forming above the King's head so Igently hand washed it in room temperature water and watered-down Woolite. You're always taking a bit of a risk when laundering these old banners for fear the color will run, but they really can't survive another 122 years without some attempt at restoration - the dirt eats at the fibers. Ultimately a smudge of red ink relocated itself along the "I" in "King" but otherwise it further resulted in a softer flag that no longer smells like a basement and due to great care, the hole remained the same size.
Always a bit tricky to photograph something in natural light in your living room during the winter months but I did my best! Flag measures 32.5 by 35.5 inches and continues to display beautiful graphics and bright colors - and the lion is fabulous!
