Framed KPM signed painting on porcelain plaque depicting Lady Hamilton holding a brown and white spaniel.Lady Hamilton has long dark hair and is dressed in a soft salmon colored dress with white trim around low scooped neckline:a soft orange colored ribbon in her hair. Very ornate gold leaf frame. Artist is O.S. Dietrich Painted as "Nature" after an oil painting by George Romney painted in 1782. (British, 1734 - 1802) Overall size: HT: 17.625 Width: 15.0 inches Depth: 1.50 inches MetalFrame: 8.25 by 6.25 inches Plaque size:7 x 5 inches Total weight: 3 pounds 3 ounces Who was Emma Lady Hamilton?Emma, Lady Hamilton 1765 – 1815 The history of beautiful Lady Hamilton is illustrated on the "copy and paste" link style="margin:0in;">Lord Nelson‘s great love was Emma, a lady who had “a quite remarkable past”. Lord Nelson (1758-1805)was the most inspiring leaderthe British Navyhas ever had.
Below is one explanationfor the Kaulbach signature on the reverse. The Berlin Porcelain Factory was known for producing plaques decorated with copies after original paintings by Old Masters etc. There were a couple of artists with the surname of Kaulbach, namely; Wilhelm Von Kaulbach (1805- 1874) noted as a muralist, Theodor Friedrich Wilhelm Christian Kaulbach (1822-1903) and Friedrich August Von Kaulbach (1850-1920). The Berlin porcelain factory is known for producing plaques decorated with paintings after Friedrich August Von Kaulbach, but he wouldn’t have worked at the factory and as the back of the plaque states the picture is of Lady Hamilton after Romney. It is unlikely that he would have had anything todo with its production. He might possibly have owned it hence his name on the reverse, but this is speculation.
