Antique ~ J.B. Colt Company, Atlanta, GA ~ Sales Letter and Bulletin ~ 1927ITEM DESCRIPTION: This listing is for one antique 1927 J.B. Colt Company Sales Letter and Brochure. The letter is dated June 10th, 1927 and is directed " To All Direct And Closing Salesmen" and is signed Ruth C. Hunter, Sales Department. The letter states in part, "We find it necessary at this time, to call you attention to the proper way to fill out the Sales Reports (421's) which are sent to this office each week by all salesmen." There is a second letter addressed to "All Salesmen and Installers" with "Subject: Sale of Caroffere." This letter states in part, "Two instances have recently come to light of Salesmen forwarding caroffere orders to the Union Caroffere Sales Comp any without remittance attached."
There is a Southern Branch Bulletin dated June 13th, 1927. This bulletin is a pamphlet with blue paper covers. The bulletin features a drawing of Mr. L. H. Leslie, Manager Virginia Division, Winner of the Gold Star for May, on the front cover and a poem titled "Smiles" on the back cover. The interior of the bulletin lists rankings including Standing of Divisions, Closers, Stars for the Week, Collections & Installations, Caroffere Sales, Cash Collections, Credit Department Notes." There is a section titled "THEY WORK TWO DAYS A WEEK" and includes an excerpt that states "In Egypt,Algiers, Morocco, and Tripoli, thepopulation is a mixture of Christian, Jewish and Mohammedan religionists, about in equal proportions. The Mohammedan Holy Day is Friday; the Jewish, Saturday; the Christian, Sunday. It is, of course useless to try to do business there on Friday on account of the Mohammedans; on Saturday on account of the Jews; or on Sunday, on account of the Christians. Naturally, they are pretty well demoralized on Monday, after a three day vacation. Tuesday and Wednesday business is pretty brisk, but Thursday everybody is getting ready for the coming three day shutdown, so two days a week are about all the really live men there can actually count on."
This listing includes a envelope stamped with two 2 cent stamps that have been posted. There is a post mark from Atlanta. The envelope has been slit across the top and has a stain on the right hand side.
The letters and bulletin have some signs of discoloration from age and storage. The staples in the bulletin have some rust stains surrounding them. Please see photos for a closer look at this item's condition.
