It was hand-blown and shaped in a pitcher form with a long neck and extended pedestal. This gives a wonderful optical impression unfortunately not very visible on my picture. It was decorated with high-raised enamel armorial bearing (or Coat-of-Arms) of the city of Frankfurt. The other side shows a view of Frankfurt with the famous St.Bartholomeus Cathedral. Please note that the Cathedral doesn\'t have a spire - that\'s the way it was rebuilt after the fire of 1867. The spire was added after the restorations in the late 1890s.
There are also two floral decorative prunt ribbons on the front and the back of the stein, creating almost sculptural decorations.
The lid is pewter inlaid with a matching enameled glass finial.
The stein is not signed but the style is quite similar to the work of Anton Ambrose Egermann (1814 - 1888) - one of the most famous glass decorators in Haida (Novy Bor), Bohemia.
Anton Ambrose Egermann was the son of Friedrich Egermann, the inventor of yellow and red glass staining. He took over the company after his father\'s death in 1864. A.A.Egermann was famous for producing Historismus-themed glass with Coats-of Arms and fictitious family crests. His glass was often sold by the firm of Lobmayr in Vienna. The stein has a superficial surface chip where the lower part of the handle connects. Also, the front prunt ribbon is missing a lower part.
