Description: Fantastic large antique German beer stein made of hand-blown crystal glass with applied handle and enameled decoration.

The design shows people in Tyrolean attire on board of a passenger train apparently entering some familiar area. These are people coming from an up-mountain shooting competition.

The picture is taken from a painting by a popular at the time artist Friedrich Prolss (1855-1934) who was working with Alpine and Tyrolean themes. Apparently, the Tyrolean life was considered true German unspoiled bucolic way of living.

There were several painters from the late 1800s to the early of 1900s who created Tyrolean genre scenes - the most famous were Franz von Defregger, Eduard von Grützner, Adolf Eberle, Emil Rau, Paul Felgentreff, etc.

The Friedriech Prolss painting has a long complicated name: \"JÄGER MIT DIRNDL BEI DER HEIMFAHRT VOM SCHÜTZENFEST IM BAHNABTEIL DER 3. KLASSE\" or \"A Hunter and a Woman Dressed in Dirndl Coming Home From a Shooting Fest in the 3d Class Train Compartment.\"

The stein has a steeple form lid made of heavy ornate pewter with a cartouche thumblift. It is engraved with the original owner\'s name: \'Englbert Reinthaller\"

This is a very impressive stein measuring 9.5\" tall to the top of the finial with the capacity of 0.5 L.

The stein is in excellent condition with some age-related paint wear, but no chips, cracks or repairs
