This piece was a bed valance that would have hung around the top of a bed - it is made of two different, fabulous fabrics - one side has a wonderful late 1700s vichy check fabric that is faded and absolutely gorgeous. The other side is a floral fabric that was likely hand block and roller printed in Alsace, France and dates to around 1830 - the tones are beautiful soft faded pinks and golds... just stunning! There are some later alterations on this textile, but it\'s truly a gorgeous piece of textile history! It would be beautiful hung again around a bed or could be deconstructed and used for curtains, pillows, or so many wonderful decorative pieces... it would be lovely to make this into a set of pillows using the vichy check on one side and the pink and gold floral on the other side, to keep them together! Gorgeous for any period interior!
MEASUREMENTS:This lovely textile measures approximately 17 inches by 199 inches long
CONDITION:This fabric has been left in as-found condition for collectors, but could be hand washed and hung to dry! It is a bit musty smelling when I put my nose to it - it\'s not strong, but faint - but I\'m choosing to leave this unwashed should a collector choose to purchase this. It can be hand washed and hung to dry. There are a few seams running the width on each side, as each side of this valance was seamed together using multiple pieces of this fabric. There is a patch on one end of the vichy check side. Each side has a few tiny dark and faint marks and small scattered holes. On the gold and pink floral side, there is a bit of wear along the edge in a few places. The top edge is cut unevenly as it was removed from another piece at some point in the past. There is a short tear at one end. This textile is not perfect, but it\'s perfectly wonderful for this type of antique textile! A wonderful find for any collector or designer!
