This beautifully long sheethas a mass of embroidery and drawn thread work creating a return of 24 inches.The large monogram is SC. From the deep top hem across the full width, there is a row of fine herringbone ladder-work,which is then underlined by deep drawn thread jours. Further embellishments ofmargerite daisies alternating with vertical jours cover the width and createthe return. The monogram and margarites are worked in deep plumetis embroidery.All in all a fantastic amount of work in this lovely sheet. The hem is handsewn, tiny stitches. It dates from c1850 and is in remarkebly good conditionfor its age. I can find no holes or thinning. It is antique white, and has alittle age discolouration. I think repeated washing will brighten it. It hasbeen laundered and is ready to use.
