This listing is for one basket, shown in the second photograph. All eight are available as separate listings. These amazing baskets were used to house one of the oldest types of cheese in France. Kind of a fun story......
Neufchâtel is the oldest of the Norman cheeses, having likely been made as early as the 6th century, and known to have been made between 1050 and 1543. During the Hundred Years\' War, stories say thatyoung girls offered heart-shaped cheeses to English soldiers to show their affection. The baskets were used to cover the outside of the porcelain cheese mould as adecorative touch.
I have never seen these baskets outside of France and recently haven\'t been able to find them at all. They are very rare and treasured relics from the history of France
