An absolutely gorgeous find.

A very fine Antique English silk & wool

challis ~ still on it’s original wooden bolt!

Beautiful quality old challis.

Could be 19th century but will say Edwardian period for safety on my estimate.

Hard to capture the hues. The dominant color is a coppery brown. In certain light you’ll see an olive, mustard gold & a purplish eggplant. Please refer to my richer deeper photos. The pale ones are off, too washed out. But this does also change a bit depending on the light. Overall it’s a warmer autumnal palette.

***Please note that this entire yardage had some random petite fiber breaks at the center fold. So though the body of this textile is strong & very good, the center fold did wear somewhat over time. Inherent of earlier silk & wool.

The width is 40”, so if the random middle wear is important to you, the 20” & 20” on either side is still a very usable width per se if divided vertically down the center. So in various projects, that may not be important to you. Really depends on your project.

Again, this lovely textile is very usable & strong overall even with the center flaws. You’ll also see a hint of random petite wear to the outer selvage. Most likely how it was stored. The main body protected, the outer edges exposed to elements. May have been stacked with other bolts over time to protect the main body.
