Unpicked Formal Apron for Small Child or Large Doll

This lovely piece was a formal apron, unpicked from a 19th century dress for a small child or a large doll. Made of delicate muslin, it has open work and embroidery in a deep decorative border that extends upward to cover about half the apron. The pattern is flowers and foliage. This apron reflects the style of the late 18th and early 19th centuries when decorative aprons were often part of a formal ensemble.The waistband is hand sewn to the apron waist in tiny, meticulous stitches. The apron hem is finished in scalloping with a swag of crochet inserted along the edge. The edge itself is a series of tiny scallops with embroidered offering fully around the hemline. The waistband has one side flush with the apron side and the other with a band extending 2\". It looks like this went over the other side as closure. The condition is good, though delicate. It shows its age here and there. There are two small age spots in a light amber color, one so pale you have to look for it, the other more visible. Pictured. There are some loose threads scattered around the edge from where the piece was unpicked. Top of the waistband is raw, no finishing touches. One area about 1/4\" to the left side when viewed and 1\" below the waistband, is worn through and looks as if it was a spot that was pulled from the seam and gave out. Pictured. A gentle hand wash in hot water with additive-free soap, a bit of baking soda and a pinch or two of cream of tartar will bring the color up and the beautiful embroidery back to life. This half-apron is 12\" long from top of waistband to lowest part of hem; waistband 14\" end to end X 1 1/4\" wide (not finished on top); top of apron 12\" side to side; bottom of apron about 17 /2\".
