What a cool and rare piece…. This blue and turquoise scarab has a tag on the bottom that is not fully legible, but I can make out “purchased ? 18th 1902 Egypt Cairo museum” it appears to be a name or something but that has been damaged/rubbed off over the years unfortunately. The corner of the label is folded and not stuck anymore, but still connected.

The Cairo museum opened in 1902 and they even had a “sale room” until 1969 where they would sell artifacts “of no interest” to support the museum. This seems to be purchased year one, maybe even from there! Either way, Probably by someone going on world travels.

It is in really good antique condition, no repairs or cracks, just small dings in the paint/enamel.

I do not know what this is made of. It is very heavy, dense and solid….and it’s white underneath the blue color. It might be carved stone or possibly solid porcelain (?) with a glaze. Measures about 5.25x3.5” and weighs 1.25 pounds. Base has bright red felt pad and original label.
