Up for your consideration is this Antique Dr. McMunn’s Elixir Of Opium Hand Blown Aqua Medicine Bottle from the 1800’s. It measures approximately 4 3/8” high x 15/16” diameter and holds 1 ounce. It’s in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or other signs of damage. The embossing on these bottles is not real strong so it is hard to photograph. Nice clean example.

Dr. John B. McMunn developed this elixir “Dr. McMunn’s Elixir of Opium” by combining opium and alcohol. It became a leading American cure for the “nervous irritability” of hysteria, epilepsy, tic douloureux, pertussis, rabies, and even tetanus. Cures like this were eventually put out of business when the pure food and drug act of 1906 came into effect to protect consumers. A nice piece of American history.
