Antique Chicago Worlds Fair 1892 Columbian Coin Exposition Oil Lamp:

Antique “World’s Columbian Exposition 1892” Chicago, Illinois, Aesthetic Movement oil lamp. The lamp consists of a lamp base measuring 8.5” tall to the top of the #3 collar, and 6” wide across the base. The font is made of milk glass tinted blue with four terra cotta red transferware scenes from the exposition; “The Women’s Building” depicting fashionable dressed figures, “The Government Building” depicting a large domed building, one cameo coin that reads “World’s Fair Exposition Chicago 1492 ~ 1892”, and another with the likeness of Christopher Columbus that reads “United States of America Columbian Half Dollar”.

The top of the font is embossed with a decorative design. The iron base is also decorative with Victorian Aesthetic Movement details. The cap for the reservoir is intact. The burner appears to be original and has light surface oxidation. It is unknown whether the shade is original to the lamp’s base but the two were found together and it does match the design. It measures 10” diameter across the base and approximately 7” tall. Raspberry briars, blossoms and fruit with a cameo of two men with what appear to be work horses. The lamp is missing the shade “spider” so a supplemental one was used for photographing the two together. The lamp is still in original oil condition and has not been altered for electricity. The wick adjuster is operable and the burner threads easily onto the collar. The burner has light surface oxidation and shows signs of wear from heat, causing some splitting to the brass (please refer to the images). The glass components are free of any chips, cracks, or repairs but is dirty. No attempts to clean the lamp were made and will be left to the buyer to do so if desired.
